Each season of the year has special, unique features that bring us hope, peace, and joy. This is part two of a four-part series covering “The Sweetness of the Season” and what makes each season a time to cherish.
The Sweetness of the Season: Fall
Lauren Brownrigg
A year of seasons changing has led us here…Autumn, Fall; and in my opinion the greatest season of all.
Fall greets us with its warm, amber glow. The days start to get shorter and the cool, crisp air begins to appear. The leaves begin to change creating a canvas of color; giving our soul a sense of calm from the season’s natural beauty.
Families are settled into a new school year routine, sports are in full swing, and our wardrobes slowly shift from shorts and t-shirts, to sweaters and boots. We find time in our busy schedules to embrace the chaos, and soak up the last few months of sunshine and warmth before winter arrives.
Fall is for soup season, stews, and chili. Hearty and filling and full of comfort. Crockpots fills the house with fall dinner smells and mulled cider candles waft a smell that can only mean autumn. We gather around tables for fellowship and counsel, breaking bread and swapping stories as we spend time connecting.
Fall creates opportunities for family bonding and fun. Football games, picnics, pumpkin patches and, family photos all invite us to enjoy the outdoors together during this cooler, colorful season. Halloween brings spooky streets and decorations leading the parade of costumes during trick or treating. We gather for tailgates, potlucks, fireside chats, and Friendsgiving’s as we move deeper into the season. Thanksgiving comes and reminds us what is truly the most important. To be grateful for those around us and the blessings we’ve been given. Sharing our gratitude and appreciation fills our hearts and minds and helps to set our priorities back in line.
As Autumn draws to close, we say goodbye to pumpkin spice and hello to peppermint and gingerbread. We start to make to our Christmas lists and schedule holiday parties and activities. We reflect back on the end of a great year full of memories and growth, and prepare to look ahead to a new year of welcomed opportunity. Fall was fun and oh so sweet.
Until next year Autumn, we will anxiously await your return, but look forward to the sweetness that lies ahead in all the seasons to come.
Many Blessings,
Lauren
